Background

A large revitalization project In Toledo, Ohio presented an interesting flooring installation challenge. One that Commercial Flooring of Toledo was uniquely suited for, having training and certification for the product specified for this flooring solution.

Hensville, once completed in spring 2016, will be the result of efforts by the Toledo Mud Hens baseball organization and other community partners to transform the downtown space surrounding Fifth Third Field. Adjacent to the ballpark is a series of abandoned warehouses that are on their way to soon housing retail, corporate and restaurant space, including rooftop decks for Mud Hens’ fan.

The Opportunity

The renovation of a four-story, 24,800-square-foot warehouse brought with it the challenge of a poor subfloor. The construction manager and architect were looking for a more costeffective flooring solution than tearing it all out and repouring. They found the right product in Schonox AP, a synthetic gypsum-based, self-leveling compound. This fiber-reinforced material allows for a smooth and level floor that is poured directly over the existing floor, slashing the amount of demolition waste.

As the manufacturer, Schonox wanted to ensure that its product would meet the performance criteria for the client and knew that the most effective way to ensure a quality installation would be to work with a superior contractor. Schonox conducts regular training on its products to INSTALL’s network of certified installers.

To this end, Schonox inserted INSTALL language into the Hensville specification requiring that the installation only be performed by an INSTALL Warranty Contractor.
