INSTALL and UBC Announce Key Executive Leadership Changes, Enter New Decade of Installation Excellence United by Common Goals

INSTALL and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) have announced key leadership changes within their executive leadership teams. Tom Flynn replaces Michael Capelli as INSTALL Labor Chairman and UBC General Secretary-Treasurer effective immediately. Flynn reaffirmed the UBC’s commitment to key INSTALL initiatives and programs that play a critical role in recruiting, training and certifying labor across the United States and Canada.

Changing of the Guard

Flynn is a 33-year member of the UBC, formerly serving as National Political Director of the organization and most recently as the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC). In his role as Political Director, Flynn worked in Washington D.C. on behalf of the UBC and INSTALL. He played a key role working with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to get INSTALL’s specification language written into the VA’s master specification.

“I am honored and humbled to be appointed INSTALL Chairman and General Secretary-Treasurer of the UBC,” said Flynn. “My goal is to build on the success of my predecessors and continue to promote INSTALL as the industry-leading marquee program that it is.”

Flynn’s appointment comes on the heels of Capelli’s retirement. A third-generation carpenter, Capelli was a member of the UBC since 1986 and served as Eastern District Vice President prior to his tenure as INSTALL Chairman and UBC General Secretary-Treasurer.

INSTALL Initiatives and the Future of UBC Labor

In his new position, Flynn will oversee the success of INSTALL as the organization enters a new decade. His support and direction alongside INSTALL Executive Director John T. McGrath Jr. will only strengthen and bolster the organization, and he seeks to uphold key initiatives and programs already underway.

“I am proud to continue working with a true UBC leader and INSTALL advocate as we enter this new decade of growth,” said McGrath. “Together, we will build on the strengths of INSTALL while expanding our scope of services delivered and geographic footprint.”

A Bright Future Togther

As the floorcovering industry’s most endorsed and specified training program, INSTALL continues to push the envelope when it comes to training and installation excellence. As a united team, Flynn and McGrath will work together to ensure a bright future defined by industry-changing initiatives and a dedication to quality.
